Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of In-Cite (in-cite.com), a trading name of a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). By creating an account, using the site, or subscribing to a paid plan you agree to them. If you're using In-Cite on behalf of an institution, you confirm you're authorised to accept these terms for it. Contact: admin@in-cite.com.

The service

In-Cite provides academic search and citation tools built on open scholarly data, plus AI-assisted tools such as Claim Check. Search and citation generation are free. Some features are subject to usage limits that vary by plan; current limits are shown on the pricing page and may be adjusted with notice to keep the service sustainable. AI-assisted actions, including Claim Check rulings, the in-app assistant, generated guides, deep-research runs, and other AI tools, draw from a shared monthly AI-credit allowance set by your plan; each such action uses one or more credits, and once the allowance is used up those features pause until it resets at the start of the next calendar month.

AI outputs are assistance, not authority

Claim Check rulings and other AI outputs are generated automatically from limited inputs (typically a source's abstract) and can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. They are a study aid, not academic, legal, or professional advice, and not a substitute for reading the source. You remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of your own work, and for complying with your institution's policies on AI assistance.

Accounts and acceptable use

Keep your sign-in email secure; you're responsible for activity on your account. Don't attempt to circumvent usage limits (for example by creating multiple accounts), scrape or resell the service, probe its security, use it to violate others' rights, or submit unlawful content. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms, with notice where reasonable.

Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe. You can cancel any time from Manage billing in your profile; your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and doesn't renew after that. Yearly plans are discounted monthly plans and follow the same rule. If you're a UK or EU consumer you have a statutory 14-day cancellation right for new subscriptions; by starting to use the paid features immediately you ask us to begin supplying the service within that period, and if you cancel within the 14 days we'll refund you proportionately for the unused remainder. If a renewal payment fails we'll retry and notify you before reducing your plan to Free.

Your content and our service

You keep all rights to the text, claims, and library data you submit; you give us only the limited licence needed to operate the service (for example, sending a claim to our AI provider to produce your ruling). The In-Cite name, site, and software are ours. Bibliographic metadata comes from open sources including OpenAlex and remains subject to their terms.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence). Otherwise, In-Cite is provided "as is"; we are not liable for academic outcomes, lost profits, or indirect losses, and our total liability to you is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (or £50 if you've paid nothing).

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; material changes will be notified to account holders, and continued use after the effective date means acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and consumers keep any mandatory protections of their home country. Contact: hello@in-cite.com.
